Logging directly from a laptop with a VTR (DSR 11)

Need help in figuring out a way (if there is a way) to log directly from my laptop using my Sony DSR 11 VTR.

Obviously you can do this but the trouble I have is I can't hear the audio when I connect, via firewire, the VTR to my PB G4. Since the audio runs out of the deck, and the DSR 11 has no headphone jack, I need to connect, via RCA cables, my camera so then I have a place to put my headphones.

Am really curious if there is a way to adjust the VTR or FCP 5.1 so that I can just take my deck and my laptop and log the footage when I'm away from the edit.

Any info would be hugely appreciated...

Under the clip settings tab in the log and capture window check the "preview" box in the audio settings pane.
