Capture Problems: "searching for media" instead of capturing.

Hi,

I'm having problems capturing media in FCP version 6.03. When I "capture now" (or batch capture) the capture status says "capturing clip" as it should but then says "searching for media" as the tape plays on. I am therefore capturing a few frames, then missing several seconds, and then capturing a few frames more, and so on.

I often capture HDV but this is the first time either myself or my colleagues have come across this problem. I've gone through my settings and they appear to be as they should. I've also changed the capturing device to a different camera so this isn't the problem. I've also removed my preferences.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated,
