Importing clips from Sony XDCAM EX3

Friends,
I currently have a one year old Mac Pro, OSX version 10.4.10 with FCP version 6.0. I recently got a Sony XDCAM EX3 and downloaded the included software. I also downloaded the XDCAM Transfer software 2.5.1. I am able to view the clips using the XDCAM Clip Browser (it's not very convenient to use). When I try to import the clips directly from the SxS reader into FCP it will download the clips but without the video image (it says "no image available"
. Interestingly it does include the clip's audio. I've gone through all of the preferences for both the Mac, FCP and the XDCAM software and found nothing that would affect it one way or the other. I've tried first saving the clips on the hard drive and then importing them into FCP and that did not fix the problem either. I'd be most appreciative for any suggestions.
