I cant see external drive on desktop.

Does anyone know how I can access my external drive. For some reason the drive is not visible on the desktop. I went to disk utility to see if it was mounted and it was. I tried verify disk, disk repair and still nothing. I ejected and unmounted and mounted again the drive but still not visible on the desktop. I see it in the disk utility. I don't have the option to repair permissions because it is grayed out. Does anyone knopw why this happened or what I can do without having to erase the drive.

And just for grins, first check your Finder preferences. You can turn off showing Hard Disks on the Desktop, something I'd never want to do, but if it got unchecked by accident it might lead to what you're (not) seeing.

Also, open your Hard drive > User > Desktop. I've had a few instances where an item did not show up my my desktop but was in the Desktop folder.
