Animating a Cut Out

Animating a Cut Out

I have a logo centered on the screen with an alpha channel. It sits on a black background. If i put footage under the still w/alpha i will be able to see the footage as usual or expected.

I would like to have the logo barn door out leaving alpha in its place. The footage i want to be seen in the cut-out of the logo. Like looking thru a keyhole.

In motion blend mode 'stencil alpha' does this. However it also turns the logo completely black. I need the logo to remain rgb. I believe that it may take 3 layers but unsure about the method.

What is the best method to create a cut out?

Ok I think I get it.

You start with the logo over a background. Then the logo transitions off leaving the background with another image in "hole" that the logo was in. If that is it try this.

On V1 put your background footage.
On V2 put your logo
On V3 put the footage you want in the "hole"
On V4 put the logo again.

Set the composite mode of the footage on V3 to be "travel matte alpha"

Then set your transitions on the logo on V4.

How does that work for you?

Thanx, That got me there. I forgot that travel mattes work on the layer below.
