16/9 image squeezed with black stripes on either sides...

Hi everybody,

I have just finished a documentary which was edited on Adobe Premiere Pro on a PC. By the end of the project, my editors have exported a DV master in .avi full resolution (720*576) around 17Gig.
The footage was shot in HDV (then downconv. into DV) and 16/9

That master plays on VLC with black stripes on the left and right-hand side and the image appears to be squeezed. It should be played and fill in the whole screen of my 16/9 macbook screen.

I have imported the project into final cut in order to put english subtitles to it and now I am facing this problem when wanting to export it. I am wondering if there is a way for me to stretch this image so that it has the right 16/9 dimensions and no black stripe at all.

I should also mention that when it is imported into FC, it is in 16/9 (without the horizintal black stripes)

Chances are, your movie file is missing the Anamorphic 16:9 flag. Just add it after importing into the project file.
