Gray Screen when editing RED Footage

I'm editing some RED Footage from a music video, I'm using the Proxy 'M' files, the performance shots were shot at 3K and those work perfectly fine on my system (Mac Pro 8 core 6gb Ram FCP 6.0.5) using the REDCODE compressor, but when I try to add any of my slow motion shots, which were shot at 2K and at a 2:1 aspect ratio, opposed to 16:9, it says I have to render the clip but after I render all I get is a completely gray frame. The only way that has worked is switching the compressor to 'Apple ProRes' and rendering every slow motion clip I put on the timeline. Any thoughts on how I can make this work without having to render every clip?
Thanks!
