Hi!
I want to export my project to FCP from C4D.
In C4D I've putted a 3d object on a video.
Now I want to export only 3D object rendered movie with alpha channel to import it in FCP where I'll put on another video level the orginal footage.
Can you show me the steps ?^
Thanks
Cino

sorry i don't know english too well

Cino,

Without specifics on your project (Sequence Settings / codec / etc) I am just guessing but I can give you the general settings. In your C4D Render Settings, use the following:

General:

Antialiasing - Best
Filter - Still Image (sharper than Animation which layers a softness over the render)

Output:

Resolution - plug in whatever your comp size is
Film Format - Automatic
Frame - All Frames
Field Rend. - None
Frame Rate - plug in whatever your frame rate is

Save:

Path - plug in the path where you want your render to go
Format - Quicktime Movie / (click Options) Animation / Millions of Colors +
Check "Alpha Channel"
Check "Straight Alpha
Check "24 Bit Dithering"

The rest is to your taste. Make sure your Preview Range is set in the C4D timeline. If you imported a video into C4D to use as a background to composite your 3D object into and you don't want that background in the render, you simply hide it from the renderer. There are 2 small dots to the right of the background object in the "Objects" palette. The top button is the "EDITOR" (allows you to hide or show an object while you are editing it). The bottom button is the "RENDERER" (allows you to hide or show an object in a render). Click the bottom button TWICE (it will be GREEN the first click...then RED). That will hide it from the renderer but still allow you to see it in the "Editor".

am not a C4D user but saw this earlier this evening by chance and thought I'd post the link in case it was something might be useful, assuming of course its not common knowledge, in which case apologies

Not related, Andy. That app simply allows you to preview the C4D file itself while searching...not create and output a rendered animation with alpha channel. Also it's for v10.5 - not v11.

Hi!
I've followed your steps but I obtain a movie with black background without alpha channel!
Another thing: in my project I use a background and a floor where appear the shadows...I've hided floor too from renderer to avoid to show original footage)
The rendered movie has not shadow

my project

Movie rendered but black without alpha channel and without shadows (they were on floor but I've hided it from renderer to avoid to show original footage). Why no shadows and no alpha channel ?

You never mentioned rendering shadows, my friend. You will need to create a "shadow catcher" to render shadows without the background. Here is a great tutorial to do that:

As far as why there is no Alpha...that I cannot tell you unless I see your Render Settings. A rendered movie with an Alpha Channel WILL render your object with a black background but when you drop it into your FCP sequence, the black disappears (select "Straight" as the alpha type).

I put straight but when i put the movie in a sequence in FCP , the black doesn't dissappear sad smiley

I hear you Joey. I posted it only because I figured it may be of potential interest to any who use C4D and hence who may view the thread ... wasn't intended as a solution for the posters problem.
Apologies for skewing the topic.

Cino,
That's not all your settings. Did you select Format / Options / Animation / Millions of Colors +? If you did, the only other option is uncheck Compositing Project File (Final Cut) and just render a QT with alpha.

I just recreate a quick project with a box, camera & background, turned off the background and rendered the camera angle with alpha and I have no issues. You are missing a setting somewhere.

Hello

With in the render viewer of c4d you should be able to see your alfa if its there.
The only thing I do is render out to tiff's then assemble in QT Pro to make image sequence.
