Color Corrector messing with white levelsPosted by jamesnw
Has anyone noticed the color corrector filters messing with white levels? Simply adding the filters at their defaults will bring the white levels down on our scopes, and make the excess luma overlay happy. Then we'll color correct, and make sure whites are broadcast safe. Everything looks fine. But once we render, the white levels are completely different from what we rendered. It's frustrating. Shifting the color sticks. I'm not sure if it's just the whites, but that's the most noticeable.
This is happening on both of our stations here. Any ideas? We have a Kona 2 card on one machine, Blackmagic card on the other. ---- www.JamesNWeber.com - Socially Aware Media and introducing- www.FCPTutorials.com - One source for all Final Cut Tutorials
Which filters? Color Corrector? 3 Way Color Corrector?
Yeah, I see a very slight shift in the RGB Parade. Noticeable on the scopes, but nothing to the eye. www.shanerosseditor.com Listen to THE EDIT BAY Podcast on iTunes [itunes.apple.com]
Which version of FCP are you using?
A while ago I did mention seeing a shift in black levels before and after rendering on some clips. [www.lafcpug.org] If you are working on HD clips in an SD timeline, the levels will shift before and after rendering. www.strypesinpost.com

It's the latest version of FCP (6.0.5?). It's DVCPRO HD 1080i footage in a DVCPRO HD 1080i timeline.
I don't have dvcproHD 1080 footage to try that on. You don't happen to have any fxplugs in the filter stacks, right? Eg. Vignette, etc.. That can cause a shift in white levels before and after rendering.

I'll let you know if I have time tomorrow.
