I have FCP 5.1.2. I am working on a local TV program that is WAY past due.
Problem is I HAVE LOST MY TIMELINE.
>When I go to the menu and click on 'window' the Timeline is checked. I click on it and the Timeline does not appear!
>When I click on file menu and click on New Project in the past a new project has appeared.
This time that does not happen either.
>When I click on 'Auto Vault' and click on a past file still NO TIMELINE.

Ok folks, how do I get my Timeline back?

H---E---L---P---!

Double click the sequence in the browser.

If the Timeline option is checked in the Window menu, then there is probably already a Sequence open.

It's probably offscreen. Press CONTROL-U to restore your window layout to default.

Double click the sequence in the browser.

Agreed - however if it still does not appear.

Go to:

Menu: Window > Arrange > Standard

or Press CONTROL+U

This will reset FCP's window layout

Another option - you may have minimised it - check on your Dock on the far right-hand side if there is a little timeline icon - click on it if there is and it will go back to full size.

If none of the above works. Delete your FCP preferences.

To Delete the User Preferences

? In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences?the tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
? Remove the "com.apple.finalcutpro.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
? Remove the "Final Cut Pro User Data" folder from the Preferences folder.

Restart FCP and you will need to re-specify the scratch disk and set up your User Preferences and System Settings.

Well everybody I did the menu>arrange>standard and that did the trick.
Thanks specifically to Ben King. Thanks to everybody else who gave me tier input so fast.

That's exactly what CONTROL-U does.

Remember -- CONTROL-U is not the same as APPLE-U (aka COMMAND-U).
