HDV to DV editing

Hi guys:
I am trying to use some HDV clips in a FCP project that is standard 720x480 by dragging them into the timeline, reducing the size to fit (16:9 to 4:3), then rendering. It all looks good, except that the clips have a slight flutter on my NTSC monitor. The original clips were

Apple HDV 1080i, 1440x1080 (1888x1062) milions, FPS 29.97.

Never having done this before, is there another way to bring them in, or work with them, so I can eliminate the flutter?

Try using compressor to convert the footage from HDV at 1080i to DV NTSC at 4:3.....?

Easier said than done. I must admit, I have seldom ventured into Compressor territory. It is complex and daunting to say the least, and, at first glance, the learning curve looks severe. Is there an easy was to make the proper settings for this conversion? Is there any other way to convert HDV to standard DV besides using Compressor?

you could try mpeg stream clip but i wouldn't know how good this is compared to compressor for format conversions.

which version of compressor are you running?
