Compare edit lists software

I need to give my sound editor an update of changes to the edit on a feature length doc. He says there is software for Avid to compare lists and tell him where the changes are. Is there software for FC that does the same thing? I have FCP 5. I've searched the database and can't find any posts on this topic.

there isn't anything specifically for FCP for this, (there's an argumant for Cinema Tools, but lets leave that for now)
but as you are tlakling about EDL's it doenst matter.
all you need is a solution that compares 2 x EDls and creates a change list.

there are quite a few solutions for this,
and most of them are quite expensive, and not worth it for a one-time use.

there is one other that i know of that is probably perfect for what you want.
EDITRACE
this can work as a downloadable app (that costs a fair bit)
OR it can work as an on-line service.
for a one-off fee, you up load your EDLs, and the software comperes them on-line, and gives you back a change list.

Editrace also offers a free app that you feed the change list into,
and it will auto-conform your protools session.


the sound team used it on the last feature i edited,
they were happy.

ok, Cinema Tools.
this does generate "change lists"
but you have to have a meticulous database created specifically for CT,
plus the change lists are really for pos-conformists to read,
full of instructions that relate to handling film.

the automated Edtitrace solution i mentioned would be much better for you.

oh, by the way..

when we used it, i had given it PICTURE EDLs.
so it didn't catch all the subtle changes to the audio edit.
i had to sit in with the sound editor for an hour or so and talk her though those.

you could try making the EDL from the first 2 sound tracks.
i don't know if that will work or not.
