2 aspect ratios from same clip ??? helpPosted by ankawa
Hi guys,
I just finished my first video edited in FCP 6 but my client asked me for a diferent version of the event so I looked at my clips and notice that now the 16.9 ratio now is full screen??? here are two shots of the same clip viewed from the canvas I even restarted the computer thinking it was a memory issue the event was shot with a canon xha1 16.9 SD Thanks This is the correct image not it looks like full screen
You have a tad little more headroom than you should. FYI.
I know...not helpful. www.shanerosseditor.com Listen to THE EDIT BAY Podcast on iTunes [itunes.apple.com]

Aie. Tough love time: You need to study up on your formats and editing a bit. Read this, it'll help you: [www.lafcpug.org] Neither image you posted is "correct" or "incorrect". It depends on what you need. But you can't make that decision unless you understand what exactly you're shooting and editing, how your media behaves. www.derekmok.com

So I need to know is check under ANAMORPHIC to all the sequencese, right ? I dont understand why this topic is not included in that book.
The Weynand book is good but in some ways restricted and such manuals can't address all real world needs. That's why we have the Wiki and sites like this.
BTW, Ankawa, decent project organization. You might put those sequences in a CUTS bin and add an Special Imports folder for oddball-format footage like AVI's. - Loren Today's FCP keytip: Cycle Image to Image & Wireframe to Wireframe with W ! I think I found the answer to my problem here [finalcutpro.digitalmedianet.com] SO all I need is to check Mark ALL sequences under "ANAMORPHIC" am i right ????

Nope, not quite. The "easy" way doesn't always give you everything. That's why the Weynand book doesn't completely do it; that's why you need a more "macro" understanding of how the media behaves, and that's why I wrote up that tutorial. When you put your anamorphic 16:9 media into a non-anamorphic Sequence (timeline), FCP converted your anamorphic clips to letterboxed by applying a Distort - Aspect Ratio of -33.33. This is because, by setting the timeline to non-anamorphic, you are implying to FCP that you don't want your clips to be anamorphic anymore. Even if you now change the Sequence to anamorphic, the clips will retain that Distort setting. You need to remove that by using Remove Attributes (OPTION-APPLE-V), or by going into the Motion tab of each clip and setting the Aspect Ratio value back to 0. Take your clips, start a new project file, and do the steps I show in that tutorial. That would give you an idea of what happens to your clips in each situation. www.derekmok.com
awesome
IT works i just need to go to each clip and set it to 0 how good is this book [www.amazon.com] ???????????????? THANK YOU!!!!!!!! SO MUCH!!!!!
To dispel conflict of interest, I have to point out that I have known Diana Weynand for a couple of decades and taught for her training company in the past.
The book you talked about,"Final Cut Pro 6", is the starting point for learning Final Cut. " Final Cut Pro 6 Beyond the Basics" is a good next step. Another great resource is Lynda.com. There are a myriad of other great places to go as well. Some are on the sidebar here, some in the store, more linked from the ones you find. I also like to read the forums frequently to see what problems others encounter in their work, and the solutions offered by their peers. You have finished both your first video and training programs. Congratulations on both. Someday you may have learned everything. I have been trying for more then 30 years. I'll drop you a note when I reach the end of the road! -Vance
