this time i typed a smaller tittle.....
I got some tapes from a wedding to edit.... I have no idea in what camera was recorded, but i used a panasonic dvc30 to capture, the LCD showed 'SP SQU' meaning it was recorderd in 16.9.
I just wanna make sure i will have to provide a DVD where 2 black bars will show, one on top, on on the bottom... thanks

In your FCP project after you have your movie clips on the timeline, Control Click + 0 will show you a window with the sequence format.

Click to the right of the line next to "anamorphic" and a check mark will appear in there. Now your project is going to export out as anamorphic 16:9, after which when you're making a DVD, the result will be a 16:9 image letterboxed when it plays on standard tv's and widescreen when it plays on LCD or Plazma tv's. It will do it automatically.

if the footage is anamorphic,
then you should edit in an anamorphic sequence.

best approach on these sort of projects is to find the "Anamorphic" column in the browser,
and bring that up the front, so it's easy to see and get at.

it's also easy to turn the anamorphic flag on or of in this column by clicking,
or for a group of clips or sequences,
select them all,
right click in the column and chose "yes"

when you are editing 16/9 anamorphic footage, with both the footage and sequence set correctly,
you should see a 16/9 image in both the viewer and canvas,
and NO BLACK BORDERS in either.

if you see black borders, you know something is wrong.

when you are done editing, export the sequence as a QuickTime movie, same settings.
when opened in QuickTime, this file will be 4/3 with a squished up image.

to use it in iDVD, you need to go through the process we outlined before.

hope that helps,
nick

Ankawaa,

your footage is 4/3.
that's why you don't like the way the people look as anamorphic 16/9.

do you want to make a 16/9 DVD?
it would be much, much simpler if you just made a 4/3 DVD

when I was capturing the footage, in my camera's LCD showed "SP SQU" I thought It was 16.9 footage and the cam had to SQUeezed it.

if they recorded in 4.30, i will give them a 4.3 DVD....

thank you
