Batch clip rename within FCP?

OK, here's something that's been bothering me for a while. There doesn't seem to be a way to batch rename clips in FCP. Is there a plugin out there that could help? I Google for it every so often without any luck.

ATM I'm dealing with tons of "... Merged" files. Merge certainly helps speed up the syncing process greatly (assuming TC is good,) but it's a bit of a drag having to go though and remove all the clips and remove the "Merged." Yes, it's pretty trivial, but I'm already racing the clock processing a lot of footage, so every little way I can save time helps.

Am I missing something obvious? Advice?

Thanks!

i have used QuicKeyes for this sort of thing,
any macro app would do, but that's the one i use.

we don't "Merge" in the browser,
we "link" in the timeline.

once the picture and sound are lined up,
(which could also be automated if the TC matches)
then the linking process can be easily automated as it's all keyboard shortcuts.
we then make a subclip which trims any overhanging audio,
then the macro also removes the word "subclip"

you can also program a specific mouse click for the merging process, too of course,
and then have a series of commands that removes the word "Merged"

OK, I've been hearing about these macros apps for ages but haven't given them a shot. But I just downloaded Quickeys 4 and I'm going to give it a go. If it reliably saves me time I'll gladly plonk down the $60.

So far I've been: 1) merging in the browser, 2) adding ins and outs to to isolate the picture from overhanging audio 3) bringing them all down into a sequence, 4) then adjusting sync if necessary in the timeline (sometimes they are off a frame or so and need a slip & relink.)

Looking forward to seeing if Quickeys can make my life easier. Thanks for the tip!

"4) then adjusting sync if necessary in the timeline (sometimes they are off a frame or so and need a slip & relink.) "

yeah, that's another reason i like to work in the timeline.
we make sure sync is all good before we commit to linking.

not that $60 will break the bank,
but there are cheaper options to QuicKeys.
(i don't know the names)

[then the macro also removes the word "subclip" ]

So you should bottle this, Nick!

QuicKeys is the champ. You get your free signoff KeyGuide keytip in all my posts because of QuicKeys. Conceivably, over time, you could collect them all and save on buying the KeyGuide, but why? It's a great remapping aid, it's shiny, colorful, and it's on discount here at the LAFCPUG store!

Seriously, you'll use QK *everywhere* but it works pretty well inside FCP.

It would be pretty tough to beat Quickeys slick GUI and superhero/Command icon. Now that I've used that it would be hard to accept anything less!
