Sorry if these seem like simple questions, but I seem to be getting stuck on them.

I turned on the dupe frames indicator, and it's not detecting the dup frames. My project is HD. Is this because I am not working with film? If I cut in 2 same clips onto the same time line it doesn't change anything there is no indication that they are the same piece of footage.

If I had to make a Duplicate Frames Tool, I would make it sense duplicate frames *next to each other*, not anywhere in the same timeline.

I'd suggest that having both options would be a good thing. Repeated frames back to back are a cause for concern, but I can also see others who want to see whether they've used a shot more than once, film editors ensuring no film frame was used twice, etc.

I tried both, but it won't show the dupe frames. I cut the exact same frames together and it doesn't highlight that they are the same.

Wild and wacky idea. What happens if you have the track with the duplicate frames selected?

emilyelaine,

WHERE did you turn on dupe detection?
i suspect you turned it on in your preferences,
which will only affect the *next* sequence you create.

to turn it on in an existing sequence, open that sequence's settings
-right click on seq in browser, select "settings"
or
-with a timeline active go to Sequence Menu > Settings (or Apple top-row-zero)

then... well, you'lll find it.

You know, Nick, I'm not sure if Emily's case is this, but I was trying it out at my home system (FCP4.5, OS 10.3.9, QT6) and it didn't work, either.

I changed the User Preference, then changed the Sequence Setting (DV NTSC sequence, with a test clip that was a batch capture from timecoded tape). Went through every track size (my usual is Reduced, but I tried Small, Medium and Large as well), tried turning on Filmstrip and Thumbnails, tried turning Duplicate Frames on and off multiple times. I'm not getting the colour strip either. Created a new sequence and tried again, no soap.

Thinking I must be missing something, I checked the DigitalFilmTree Advanced Techniques book and followed the instructions, and I couldn't get the bars to come up.

that's weird.
it;s never *not* worked for me.
although i cant remember specifically using it in 4.5, i'm sure i must have seen it or demonstrated it.

it'll work at any track size, thumbnails, filmstrip, whatever.

gotta be picture, tho,
dupe frames aren't shown on audio.

trash prefs time?

remember: user preferences dictates the *next* sequence you create.
for current sequences, open settings, go to TIMELINE OPTIONS,
turn on "show dupe frames"

I turned on the "show dupe frames" in the settings in the sequence menu.

and you're sure it;s the right sequence?
(sequence name will be at top of sequence settings window)

have you trashed your prefs?
