Hello guys, I connected my xha1 to Fmy imac, opened FCP and couldn't import.
So I imported using imovie. The files are .DV
Should I re-export it to make it .MOV so I can edit in FCP?

thanks guys

A couple of questions

1. Where do VHS and DVD come into this?
2. Why couldn't you import in FCP? What was the problem?

Yes, it would be better as .mov, but you're losing time and likely quality by not figuring out the import problem in FCP.

VHS is a home video that I want to transfer to DVD

I conected the VCR to the XHa1 and then to my Imac, and, set the camera in VCR.
When click 'capture now' this is the window that shows and never captured.
I captured in imovie but the file is .AVI, not .MOV

You need to set the XHA1 to do 'e to e' or 'EE' in one of the menus, then set the capture preset to 'non controllable device'. Then you can capture using the camera as a pass through mechanism.

And the files are .dv, yes? Not .avi.

as you already have the file, you may well be better off using it.

those files wont play SOUND in FCP unless they are rendered.
so throw it into a timeline and render the audio.

if your edit is just "top & tailing"
or simple cut-down,

you can just work in the timeline after you render the audio.

then export for DVD however you do that.
