merge clip>>>Audio bitrate

I have footage of a camera. The camera's audio is 16 bit.

I have audio files 24 bit.

Both have identical timecode.


I'm trying to merge the files with the "merge clip" command.
The merged clip is 16 bit and not 24 bit.

Anyone?

Or is the only way to go to sync in the timeline manually?

Just a guess, but you may have to downsample that extra audio to 16-bit 48K sample rate-- which I assume is the full spec for your camera's audio.

You can do this by selecting the 24-bit audio files inside FCP and collect them in a Batch Export window. Change the audio settings to 16-bit 48K (or whatever the sample rate of your camera audio) and Export. Then reimport the downsamples and try a merge with those.

While FCP has an "open timeline" it's always nice to get all the materials into it in one "language."

I wonder if setting up a new project with the correct settings would help? I'm not sure where the merge functions takes its cues for the format of the merged clip from - but I'm guessing it's either the project settings or maybe you could do it in a 24 bit sequence and force the issue?

FCP is able to deal with 24bit audio,
so this should be working.

Jude's idea is an interesting one.

FWIW, i always prefer to sync in a timeline anyway,
i like to actually check the sync is good before merging (Browser term) or Linking (Timeline term)
