HVR-Z7U HDV Camcorder Work Flow

Hi Guys I will be taking delivery of my new Sony HVR-Z7U HDV Camcorder soon and was wondering if any one could offer up any past experience working with the HVR-Z7U files and FCP.

Can't wait to get it.

Yes thats what I am talking about.

We use this workflow at work. We copy the entire file structure from the SD card to a folder on our drives. Then using the Sony plugin, we use the FCP log and transfer window to bring in the raw files as QT files. The preview in the log and transfer doesn't work with the Sony plugin so you have to bring the entire clip in.

Overall pretty straight forward. And depending on the frame rate you shoot, you may or may not be able to transcode from the native HDV to Pro Res. I think only 24p footage can be converted to Pro Res.
