this says it's not for mac, but why would it not be?

It's IEEE 1394, which is the firewire standard, so no reason it should not be Mac compatible. Are you basing what you say on the spec that it only "supports" Windows OSs? The very first comment says, "works great on my PowerMac..." Comments also talk about a lousy manual, so the web specs might be from the same lame source. Says nothing about an Oxford bridge, which is a MUST for FCP use.
