800mb Firewire woes

I bought a 500gig G-Raid. Plugged into my G5 2.3dual via 800firewire. Doesn't work with FCP5. All video captured plays back choppy without audio. Everything works fine when I use a 400mb firewire connection. I successfully did audio stuff with Logic using the 800 connection to the G-Raid so it probably isn't a hardware problem. Is there a preference setting in FCP that could help me?
Thanks?
btw
my G-Raid is much noisier than a LaCie or MantaRay. What's up with that?

There have been issues lately with G-raids and FCP 5 so its best to call G-tech support.

I thought I formatted the drive properly. G-Raid info window says "Format: OS Extended"

Same problem happens when I hook up with my LaCie via 800firewire: Choppy video (looks like over-crank) and no audio.

Sounds like you have a faulty FireWire 800 port. My Dual 2GHz G5, three years old, can capture DV to FireWire 800 with no problems. What video format are you working with?

Ouch! Bad port! That's what I'm afraid of. I have Apple Care but have never implimented the coverage. I bought my G5 five months ago at Melrose Mac. Any suggestions on the process? I'm definately going to have separation anxiety.
Thanks for your guidance

ok, several things, your jumping around on one foot, you gotta pay atention to the othe

call gtech first, find out their opinion, as stated their have been problems

also do you hav another fw800 drive? can u borrow one? test it out see if there are any problems (even daisy chain with teh gtech at the far end of the mac) and see if it is just the gtech, or the cable,

if there are still problems, call melrose, and request a new firewire card, and see if A yu can replace it yourself, or B, if they can be ready or you so you can be in and out in a day or so.

these mac shops are all about scedualing youself properly.

Hey Aaron-
I'm a step, or rather, a hop or two ahead of you. I do have a second fw800 drive and it behaved exactly the same. I've also tested the G-Raid on my buddy's G5... no problems. All my cables test okay. I bit the bullet and took my G5 to Melrose Mac for service yesterday and they were great.
btw... Bomb It looks cool! You need any camera people?
Thanks

Melrose Mac says it's the logic board and it needs to be replaced. I'm happy that it is still under warranty. The same thing happened to my buddy that bought a quad from Melrose Mac Burbank.
