Edit DVD Mpeg2

I want to remove 1 scene in the middle of a DVD video. I have a DVD .img file and was wondering what Mac software I could use to accomplish this? I've used Mpeg Streamclip before to extract scenes from DVD's but am not sure how to rebuild a DVD once extracted. Any advice would be most appreciated!

Thanks,
HL

hey, alex.
this would be tricky, and while possible, not recommended.
MUCH better to re-master and make a new DVD.

you can drop your existing master into FCP,
chop out the bit you don't want,
export as a reference movie, then do your encoding etc.

if you want to persist with the mpeg file, then i would suggest not even changing it,
but rather doing the edit in DVD studio pro.
(because that's how i know how to do it.. there may well be some way to edit the mpeg)

either way you will be forced into imperfect edits as you can only cut on the I-frames.

I don't need a perfectly clean edit, as long as the general video quality is still retained of the Mpeg2 then using DVDSP will be the quick and easy way. I didn't even realize there was this function. Thank you again Nick!

no worries, alex.

i'm just trying it now to refresh my memory.

it's easy enough to do the edit in a single track, but i'm losing my chapter markers on everything after the edit.

another way could be to add new chapter markers at the edit points,
and then use the the STORIES function in DVDSP.

cheers,
nick
