Import Chapter Markers

Import Chapter Markers

My goal: I want to delete a short scene from my DVD.

My method: Drop my source 10 bit Uncompressed self-contained Quicktime into FCP and snip out scene.

The problem: The Quicktime contains "Chapter Markers", but when I drop it into an FCP sequence those markers do not import back in for some reason.

Potential solutions that I haven't figured out yet:
If I try opening the FCP project where I originally added the markers, snip out the scene and close the gap, the chapter markers will not be in sync with the rest of the picture.

If I edit the .mov in Quicktime I only know how to crop the portion I want, but I don't know how to crop out a section in the middle.

Maybe I can do this snip out scene within DVDSP with my Mpeg2 that has Chapter Marker metadata burnt in already.

What should I do?

Thanks,
HL

Upgrade to FCP7. Then the chapter markers will ripple with the sequence cuts.

All the best,

Tom

honestly the simplest method will be to do the trim in FCP,
and re-do your chapter markers.

starting with a copy of the original sequence, complete with chapter markers will be a help.

"If I edit the .mov in Quicktime I only know how to crop the portion I want, but I don't know how to crop out a section in the middle."

OTHERWISE

in QuickTime player, you can mark the section you want to remove with simple in / out points just like in FCP, (i for in, o for out)
then Delete will cut that section out.
JKL keys and left/right arrows for navigation also work in QT player.

this stuff does NOT work QuickTime PLayer X

im not sure if the chapter markers will move.
maybe. give it a go

when you're done you can save as either a reference move, or a self contained.

cheers,
