playing an AVI file in quicktime

I was wondering if anyone could provide a link to the plug-in needed to play AVI files in quicktime?

AVIs have played in QuickTime Player without a hitch for as long as I can remember. I wasn't even aware you needed a plugin.

However, like QuickTime, AVI is only a wrapper and not a video codec -- if you're missing the codec for the video file, it won't play. APPLE-I in QuickTime Player should reveal what codec was used.

This weekend I was handed a pile of avi's from a (shudder) flip cam. This did the trick for me, allowing MPEG Streamclip to convert them:

Some time ago I vaguely remember something conflicts with this, but it didn't bother my system.
