capturing from VHS

Can I capture VHS footage from a regular VHS player? I tried by connecting with RCA the VHS player to my minidv player, which is connected to my system through firewire. I set capture settings to 'non-controllable device' in log and capture. But there is still no communication to the log and capture window when I play the VHS. What am I doing wrong?

you can either record to mini dvd tape using the connection youve described and then capture that OR get you a super cool little DA converter like the canopus ADVC110

Your mini-dv player has to be 'EE' or 'E to E' capable. Check in the menus for something like this, and turn it on.

Since you have called it a "mini DV player", are there v/a inputs? Players don't have inputs and can't be used as a DA convertor. Is the Mini DV a player or a recorder? Barry
