Output Becomes Too Light

I'm exporting a sequence to MOV and it's too light compared to how it just looks in the rendered canvas (just fine). Is there a gamma or lightness setting somewhere that controls the gamma level during encoding? I have a number of elements in the sequence (video, photos, etc) and they are all being washed out a little, so something is happening to the entire clip during encoding.

Because it is designed to be bright enough to be seen on most monitors, some that might be too dark. But, if you want to see the same image you see in your FCP timeline, just open Quicktime, and in the Quicktime Player's preferences window under the General tab you can choose to Enable Final Cut Studio color compatibility.

While I would agree with Shane's comments, I would suggest a another way to compare your output from FCP. Simply import/open your QuickTime movie file back into FCP and compare it there.
