SAFE TITLE is GRAYED OUT!

I am working on subtitles for English translation of an interview.

I tried accessing "show title safe" from the view menu and to my horror saw it grayed out, meaning the function isn't available. The "show title safe" button icon isn't working either.

I'm pretty sure my apple monitor can display millions of colors bec. it was set to that when prior to switching to FCP from Avid Express Pro.

I checked the display preferences and surprisingly couldn't find the "millions" in the resolution, just "1280x1024" and "Apple Studio Display" in the Colors Pop-up Menu.

Yes, you need to have 'Show overlays' on in order to access the overlays, like title safe, timecode and excess luma. You can also find it in the drop down menu under the small 'broken square' button at the top of the canvas.
