Extract DVD

I have an old movie on a DVD that I want to edit down. I only have the DVD and a beta but I want to use the DVD. If I use that mpeg streamclip what are the settings I should use to make it the best possible? Is that the best way to do it? Thank you.

Go to Youtube and do a "MPEG Streamclip" search. There's a lot of videos on the subject. Also what I found was to copy everything from the DVD to your hard drive, then use MPEG Streamclip on it.
