choppy capture

Hello FCP group:

the facts
1. FCP7
2. OSX 10.6.7
3. 2x2.4 Ghz quad-core
4. 4T

I am trying to capture SD from mini DV ntsc 29.97 ftg and the capture is very choppy.
Playback in the capture window is smooth
All my capture settings are correct and I have unchecked abort boxes, etc.
I checked tapes I'd successfully captured in the past and the same thing is happening to them. Very choppy capture.
I'm capturing to a scratch disk with almost a terabyte on it.

Very weird and frustrating.

What do you mean by choppy? It plays choppy in the viewer? What about the captured file in Quicktime? Or do you mean it's choppy during capture?

How full is your main drive, and every other drive connected to your capture machine?

CLEAN THE CAMERA HEAD. Sony makes a tape for it- DVM-12CLD.

Mix tape brands at peril-- each uses their own lubricant.
