How to figure out why audio clip won't render

I imported audio from a digital recorder and lined it up with my video.

The video will render. The audio will play (sort of). But the audio will not render using any of the mystical menu options.

Is there a logical way to troubleshoot this?

Thank you. That mystical keyboard option worked. I have no idea why. Someday the Zen masters at Apple may tell us why such transcendental mediation is needed. But until then we will follow.
