Live action/ animation Combination?

I don't have any high tech software for creating animation but I'm really interested in combining a mixture of live action and animation for my short film. I was thinking I could use sport mode on an SLR camera, and take a series of photos, about 4/5 odd a second, more if needed, then photoshop them onto a desired background, then run the stream of photos together. Would this work?

Does it "work"? "Work" is a matter of directorial vision. If you're the director, the best thing you can do is test, test, test. If you like the results, nobody can tell you it doesn't "work". Do your homework, plenty of preparation, and consult the necessary production and post-production personnel first. Recruit a knowledgeable FX artist and let him/her in on the tests.

It's a lot more involved that just getting it to "work". You have to animate a performance. Better take some classes / read some books / watch some tuts on Stop Motion / 2D Animation. Try Lynda.com.

When life gives you dilemmas...make dilemmanade.
