Sony Z1U deep fried firewire

Hi everyone,

I have a few Sony Z1U cameras and have been using them to shoot and edit HDV for years. I am well aware of how easy it is to fry the firewire output on the camera if it is not turned off and plugged in (in the proper sequence), and another one recently got fried...that now makes 3 out of 4 that no longer work.

Repair is expensive and not covered under warranty, and I was wondering if it were possible (through a third party device, which I don't have) to not only capture video using Component, but to also Print to Video using Component as well. Also, are you able to capture timecode if you are using Component through a third party device?
