Connection Problem

Hi All--

I have been enlisted to help capture some footage for a cable TV show.

The show was shot on HDV using Canon XHA1.

The version of FCP I am using to capture the footage is 6.0.6. This the same machine used while on the road while shooting the show.

My problem--

I cannot get FCP "Log and Capture" to see the camera.

I have found that while on the road, the A/C used a SONY HDV camera (The "C" camera) to capture the footage. Of course that camera is now not available.

I know they shot 1080i

The camera says the HD IMG SIZE is LW 1920x1080.

That is all the info I have. The production team did not keep camera logs.

Might someone know what "capture settings" to use to help ingest this footage?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

There is an easy setup setting for HDV. You won't be able to log and capture it in selected shots via timecode -- it's all or nothing. Make sure the camera is set to VCR mode (playback) and check your DV firewire connection to make sure it's seated on both ends.

Then hit Capture Now.

Hit Escape to stop.

If your machine is fast enough you can transcode live from HDV to ProRes 1440 X 1080 -- this is Sony's anamorphic scheme for HDV, and FCP should rectify it upon playback, without rendering required.
