aja io and deck control with FCP 6.03

When I set up RS-232 deck control in FCP 6.03, so the aja io I get the message

"This computer does not have any serial ports matching those specified by the current device preset.
You will need to set the port."

Can someone refresh my memory as to what I should do? Is this set inside FCP, or at the aja io control panel.

Dual Core Apple G5 2.5Ghz, 5G Ram
Leopard PPC.

Thanks

Half way there....Went to device cofig, set up RS-232 to aja io port.

I do not get the above complaint.

Quit FCP
Reset aja io

Reloaded project

Yes, the Sony DV cam deck is is remote
Yes, the RS-232 cable is well seated between aja io and deck
RS-232 deck control is configged to aja now in device control

When I load up log and capture, I get "no communications"

Any ideas?

Are you sure about the RS-232? While I know there are a few machines that use this protocol, RS-422 is far more popular for controlling VTR's.

This is the Sony DSR-40. Deck control worked before. But FCP was re-installed and now it does not.

I just took a quick look at the back of one of those via Google images. The port is labeled RS-422A. Make sure the machine templet that you are using supports Sony RS-422.

I am dsylexic sometimes, I meant to say. Rs-422.

I think the problem may be that aja io 3.1 doesn't really support leopard, while 3.0 does.
However, I have never uninstalled anything in OSX, as Windows has a "uninstall program".
