Finding your sequence in a maze of projects - figured it out

some times you can have a host of projects open,
sometimes (but hopefully not to often) you may be working on a sequence that is buried within a host of bins.
simply put, sometimes the sequence you are editing right now can be hard to find quickly in your project.

so how DO you find it quickly?

this has come up before as a question, here and elsewhere, and i didn't have a great answer .
now i've got an answer, a bit more odd than great, but it works for me so far.

very simply:
double click a clip from your timeline into the viewer,
Apple U to make a subclip.

you get a new subclip IN THE SAME BIN AS YOUR EDIT SEQUENCE,
which is BROUGHT TO THE FOREFRONT OF YOUR PROJECTS /BINS

it's like a "reveal in finder" for your edit sequence.

very cool, as Mike would say smiling smiley

oh, one caveat: if you have an incredibly messy project, with absolutely NO organisation, and clips and sequences all just floating around,
then this wont help you.
(nothing will!)

obviously you delete this otherwise useless subclip ASAP

cheers,
nick

Nick,

Why not use "Find"?
Assuming that you don't have a million of sequences named "Sequence 1" or so, just enter the name of the sequence in the find panel and let it search for all matching names (of your sequence) in all projects.
In the resulting panel view just click the sequence and click the "Show in Browser".

hi, Andreas

yes, there is that,
but this method is faster!

double click,
Apple U

(then escape, delete, to get rid of the bogus subclip)

verses:

Apple 0
Apple C
escape
Apple 4
Apple f
Apple v
change menu to "All projects"

wait for find results,
select sequence
click on "show in browser"

Oh, I like that kind of analysis.

It looks to me like a conditional Quickeys recipe!
