YUV or RGB for DVD

Hi. I'm making a DVD for playback on Standard Def TV. Should I set my sequence to RGB or YUV rendering? Also what compression scheme should I export my final movie as?

Depends on what the two bookends are. If you started with, for example, mini DV which is Yuv and you're going to end up with a DVD which is Yuv, then yes, everything in the middle should be Yuv.

You should export the show as a self-contained QuickTime Movie (not conversion) and drop that into a separately running Compressor. It's probably still a bad idea to try to run Compressor as a Final Cut export directly. That could take forever.

Your output will be a DVD. All DVDs are coded in mpeg2, which is based on compressing YUV. So on your DVD will be no RGB whatsoever.

If you edit in RGB, you will get quite some interestring effects, you dont want to see. "Banding" for example is a major problem in RGB space.

Even if your source is a RGB source, I suggest that you edit in YUV for two Reasons:
1. Your DVD is YUV anyway.
2. No Banding effects.
