Boris Continuum Complete 3.0/4.0 won't load into FCP5Posted by Trig Simon
Hi,
I have used BCC3/4 for a couple years now. It works fine on my G4 and my older G5. But when I loaded it on my new G5 2x2.66 Dual-Core Intel Xeon, all folders appear as they do on my other computers, but the effects/plugins do not appear in the FCP5.1.1 Effects window. Has anyone had this problem? Anyway to force it in, or folders I might check? Much appreciated, Trig

Wait a minute - a G5 is a processor, an Intel Xeon is a processor. It can't have both. The Intel machines are not "G" anything. So is your new machine a G5 or an Intel? Not that this has anything to do with your problem, but confusing the terminology is going to make it harder to solve problems (and you're not the first, nor the last). Scott

I just finshed visiting the BorisFX forum on [www.creativecow.net] and there is a post about RED 4 not being universal binary compatible. I would then guess that BCC 4 is not either. I just assumed that the 5.1 patch was UB, but it was a bad assumption.
Hi Scott,
I just bought this from the Mac Cafe and the big black box has a big G5 written on it. I thought the G5 was the enclosure family, and the Intel Xeon was the processor. Do you know if the new Intel is Unix? Because that is what Boris runs on from what I can see. Don't know for certain, but that is how far I got in my research. I misspoke, I beleive when I said I was insalling Boris 4. I want to get to Boris CC3 first, to get them into FCP. Then I can update to 3.0.3 to fix the FCP5.1.1 problem. Thanx Trig
Here is the official word from Boris:
<<Trig, Unfortunately, the Mac Intel's run on a new code base, and FCP 5.1.1 is equipped with a matching code base to allow operations on this new hardware. BCC 4 is built on the AE plug-in architecture, which this new code base does not recognize. We are currently working on a fix but I'm afraid I cannot give you an ETA on this. I can, however, let you know when a development is made.
