Make dv look more like svhs

I was given a 7 year old training video that was originally shot and edited in svhs and was asked to replace a three second shot with a new image which was shot on mini dv. For various reasons they do not want the whole thing reshot. What are some thoughts on how to make the mini dv shot blend in better? The mini dv looks much more crisp and is too jarring. I thought of adding a blur filter but maybe there other other filters or filter combinations that would help?

why don't you dub the DV to SVHS and then dub back to DV, recapture, and presto, DV that looks like SVHS

Could also apply some blur, then kill your contrast and see if you can milky up the footage some. Try adding a white colour matte on top at very low opacity.

<<<Could also apply some blur,>>>

You could try that, but it's not going to work. Tapes only blur in one direction--side to side. They also reduce the color sharpness **way** more than the luminance--and that only happens side to side, too. That's what gives tapes that VHS "look."

I know nobody here has ever seen one of these, but porn tapes that have been dubbed a million times also have color offset. The people are over *here*, but the fleshtones--lots of fleshtones--are over *there.*

I know the spells to do that in effects programs, but it would take days to get the look right which puts me square into the "record it on tape" camp. If it still looks too good, use a regular VHS machine. If it still looks too good, use regular VHS tape on an SVHS machine.
