Those are more than "votes"...those are experienced users offering up educated opinions.

If you're an indie filmmaker, you're better off sticking with FCP -- otherwise you'll go broke buying both systems. LOL

If you're looking for work or are in a company that uses both, then by all means you should learn both AVID and FCP.

If you use both...get both. You don't "go broke buying both systems". You can get a software-only Media Composer now for around $5,000 & throw it on the same Mac as FCP. A little homework / research goes a looooong way. You should learn Avid yourself, filmman before recommending it. Check out this excellent resource (lots of helpful folks over there too! You just may like it better!):

Learning it is no problem, I can come here and ask someone. LOL

...and the LAFCPUG University will be creating a "Special Pricing Guide" for online courses especially for filmman's continuing education winking smiley Hey...some of us are still paying off student loans from Film School!

BTW...that's 3 "LOL's" in one post, filmman. Did we miss happy hour or something?

that never stopped the rest of us. LOL (sic)

but Avid used to have a free version that had something like only a couple of tracks - is that still available? might be good for self-training.

But it has to be less than 2 paragraphs in length and posted here. LOL (ibid.)

Hey Johan,

No, not posted (NDA's involved - you know corporate). They are still battling over the VO...they don't know if they want a man's voice or a woman's voice. There's nothing like a bunch of non-creatives sitting around a conference call trying to be creative. They're more interested in where lunch is coming from than getting me what I need to complete the spot winking smiley

Peace!

Ha.
Thats funny.
Same thing here. Lots of suits trying to tell creatives what to do.

I guess the key is to make the suits think they get their way by suggesting the opposite to what you want.

Hiya,

It was a joke, actually when I do work for corporate clientele I usually raise my rate, because i know that at some point there will be "editing by committee," where everyone has to put their thumbprint on the project. I'm involved in that now. I'm paid decently for this project, however, so let them have their fun.
