Video Conversion Software

I recieve various video clips in my work that I have to incorporate into FCP. I have gone on the internet to check out some of the conversion programs out there and have not been able to find a good one that will convert all types of video to "Quick Time".
Could someone recommend a good one that will work on my G5?

You didn't tell us which format the original clips are in. I'd try MPEG Streamclip and Compressor.

This is the reverse of the question: "What format shall I post on the web so everybody can see my videos?"

There isn't any good answer for that one either. Most of us use a collection of different programs depending on what most of the work is. Some formats are almost impossible because the player resides on the server and not your local machine. Those are rough because you never actually get the video.

It could be said that some of the formats are intentionally difficult to keep you from stealing the work--not that you would be doing that.

vlc player is handy, that in combo with snaps pro. mpegstreamclip also plays several formats, and the flip4mac tools handle most things windows.

beyond that - youre on your own...

And when you get a list that works for you, come back and post it.

I was amazed by the flip4mac latest software demonstrated for me at the last DV Expo.

I couldn't think of any conversion that it would not do.

I don't know of any other that I could recommend -- especially for the money. It was very reasonably priced ... different versions of it were priced differently.
