Which nattress filters do I need?

I'm ready to buy the nattress filters finally :-)

I'm getting some footage from Europe for inclusion in my movies. They will most likely be PAL.

I need the right Nattress filter pack to convert PAL to NTSC. My projects will be output to DVD. I'm using FCP 5.04 and dual G5 2.7 gHz power mac.

Also, very important, what shall I ask the video to be sent to me as? MiniDV tape, DVD or CD ROM data files?

Thanks for your help.

The Natress Standards Conversion plugins

Get the source as MiniDV if they aren't available in a better format such as Digibeta or DVCpro50, this obviously would require you to have PAL Digibeta or DVCpro deck to ingest.

If the DVD-ROMs you speak of contain uncompressed video or simply DV footage then its prefereable to get these as it will be quicker and cheaper (no deck required) to copy and import the footage into your project.

I guess it depends on the aquisition format and length of clips.

Ben

Probably your best bet would be to get the footage as quicktimes on a data DVD. That way you don't need a PAL compatible deck to do the capture and you can just import them into FCP. This is just the same as data files on a CD, but of course there's a lot more room on a DVD for those big video files.

Make sure that they are not made into authored 'playable' DVDs like you would finish on, as these, as you know, are compressed.

Good point Jude - yeah make sure its DATA on a DVD-ROM and not Authored and Compressed DVD

Hi filmman,

If you decide to go the Nattress route to convert your stuff, I beg you to call up/email Graham and discuss with him exactly what you are planning to do. Graham's conversion software has it's place but (as I am sure Graham himself will tell you) it is not suitable for converting certain types of file - like (say) converting an entire movie composed of individual cuts - as opposed to, say, a single Quicktime file.

Sorry I explained that so badly ...

Anyway, get hold of Graham. He is very approachable and helpful. He lives in Canada.

Best of luck ...

Harry.

PS. Trust that you and your lady are happy and well. You came round to my house on Mulhollad a couple of months ago.
