convert PAL to NTSCPosted by subailey
I have a Dual 2 GHz G5 with 2.5 GB DDR SDRAM memory. I?m editing
with Final Cut Studio HD version 5.0.4. I use Sony?s DVCAM DSR-11 and HDV decks. Here?s my problem. I have footage shot on Sony MiniDV tapes in PAL through FCP Easy Setup I?ve tried putting the setting on both PAL and NTSC however I can?t capture the footage. I can see the footage on my playback monitors and HDV deck monitor. The DSR-11 doesn?t have built-in monitor. So, I can?t see it there? but I see the footage everywhere else except the preview window in FCP. When I tried to capture now. I get a no video signal message. I?ve tried clearing out the preferences, changing the firewire cables, playing with the custom settings and shifting the DSR-11 deck to PAL nothing worked. I called Apple and they said I should be able to capture and convert the footage with no problem. Is there something I?m missing or can it even be done. Any assistants you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Stafford Twenty ? Four 7 Productions
If you go and shoot five minutes with your mom's MiniDV Camcorder, can you capture that? I think you have way too many variables to ever figure it out. Shoot or go in the bottom of your sock drawer and find an old working MiniDV tape and just plain and simple capture that in NTSC if you're in the US.
Then we'll work up. Koz

I don't think that's true. I did four episodes of a TV show with that exact equipment combo -- Canon XL2 shot at 24p, captured with the DSR-11. I have a GL2 and I capture its footage using a DSR-11 as well. No problems whatsoever. www.derekmok.com

No problems whatsoever. There was a problem between Canon and Sony which may have been resolved but this was widely discussed on the XL-2 Watchdog site a while back. Many people had to send their cameras to Canon to get the heads aligned to play nice with Sony decks. My camera had the same problem but I just used my wifes Elura since I didn't own a DSR-11. The tapes I shot, however, would not play out on my friends DSR-11 without dropping frames. Could be you used a camera that was already re-aligned?
