FX1 Capture ProblemsPosted by Mattbro333
Ok, well I just recetly got a fx1. But when I try to capture HD footage it will capture but greatly sub-clip my main clips.. it makes 2,3, and sometimes 24 different clips, and some are split in the middle of my interviewes responses!! scary I know.. I have a powermac g4 with the lastest and greatest fcp...1gb of ram and a plenty fast video card.. I capture to 2 external raided 250GB maxtor hard drives.. someone please help me, it's a very important documentary I need to graduate college! thanks again...
When a capture starts splitting files, it almost always means your target hard drives are formatted Microsoft FAT or FAT32 and not OSX Extended. INFO your drives. They should all be OSX formatted. We use journaled on the System Drive and the long-term storage drives, but not on the capture drives because it slows things down.

I disagree with Koz on this one. If it's a drive-format issue, then your files would be split into 2GB chunks, or 10 minutes of video apiece if it's HDV. If you're talking about as many split clips as 20, then I think it's more likely that you have timecode issues.
How large are the clips you're trying to capture? Did you log them properly (ie. no more than eight to 10 minutes per clip)? If so, then you could consider going into User Preferences and choose Upon Timecode Break - Warn after Capture. This will result in some inaccuracy with your timecode at certain points, but shouldn't be a major problem if your logged clips are short and compact. But do check your drive format as well. It's a common mistake. If your drive is misformatted, use Disk Utilities to format it properly -- just know that this process will wipe the drive of all data, so backup whatever you have on there first. www.derekmok.com
I'm having similar problems but my drive is formate macOS extended. It's a lacie. My clips are broken into several sections per hour tape but there doesn't appear to be any timecode breaks. It just starts a new clip everytime the camera was stopped during taping. I've tried to change the setting in user preferences to warn after capture but it makes no difference.
So my question is how do I override this new clip creation and is it wise to do this if there is the possibility that these clips will be redigitized (although the chances are slim).
