Formats for reality showPosted by Sanjay
If they are shot Standard Def, they use Digibeta. Like SURVIVOR or THE AMAZING RACE. Well, if they are HD then they might be using the F900 HDCAM or Panasonic Varicam. B-Roll for SD is DVCAM...B-roll for the HD might be HDV...might.
But shows like ROAD RULES shoots XDCAM in SD mode, or DVCAM. No HDV. www.shanerosseditor.com Listen to THE EDIT BAY Podcast on iTunes [itunes.apple.com]
2 weeks ago on the Digital Production Buzz Philip and I interviewed Lara Meriens, Director of Photography on Lifetime Network's Lovespring International an improv-based comedy program. It was shot using three Canon XL-H1 HDV camcorders. They had a lot of genlock issues but sorted them out and end reslt, was show looked great.

Why SD?
Because a majorityof TV networks still only broadcast SD. Very few broadcast HD. And I mean a couple handfuls out of 300+ networks. SD setup on the XDCam? Yup. The XDCAM shoots HD and SD. Since MTV is only broadcasting SD, that is the format they record. www.shanerosseditor.com Listen to THE EDIT BAY Podcast on iTunes [itunes.apple.com]
Scott,
I'll be sure to let them know how you feel about the show! Here's an article about their production/post process. They use Panasonic's SDX-900, recording at DVCpro 50 (SD). They spend alot of time and money on color correction. [www.postmagazine.com] Mark
