2 browser tabs, 4 timelines, multiple sequences, 1 project? Help!

I'll be the first to admit, I've got a mess on my hands.

I don't know what caused it. I hooked up to the Internet for the first time in over a year and went to apple.com to update garage band and the window popped up and asked me if I wanted to update several files, I clicked "okay" and -- you guessed it -- over 30 applications were updated in my FCP5 Studio, including the OS.

After that everything seemed to work better, but I sent a project to Soundtrack Pro and when I tried to get back -- 25% of my files had gone off-line. In fact, as I was editing, a whole other bunch went off-line, until the whole project was off-line.

"Don't upgrade in the middle of a project" -- true, true.

Anyway, sorry to go on and on -- I'm sure you know about all this stuff. But here's my question:

On the project I was working on,

1. I ended up with two trailer timelines and two project timelines -- 4 tabs in my timeline window.

2. I ended up with two browser tabs and a whole bunch of files, which I recognize and I know what they are.

How do I separate the two trailer projects and the two feature film projects (2 versions) and end up with four separate timelines and four separate projects?

Is there a way to close each tab and each project separately so all of them don't open up at the same time as ONE PROJECT?

It's hard for me to remember which project is which when I'm editing.

Note: if you're wondering if I managed to reconnect my off-line files, yes, I did it. LOL -- I wish I'd written down what I did, because I'll never be able to do it again.

You can close the tabs by command clicking on the tab and choosing close tab.
You can have multiple projects open at the same time. You can copy material from one project to another by copy/paste or dragging.
Let's call your existing project "Master". I would organize my media in Master into Bins associated with the individual sequences as best I could, unless each sequence shares all the media, then it doesn't matter.
Save Master
open a New Project.
Copy/Paste a Sequence from Master into your new project. Select the media associated with that sequence into your new project (or drag all of it into your new project, it's just moving small XML files, and clean them up later).
Rename the now Junior project as appropriate, and save and close.
Repeat three more times. Each sequence should now be in it's own project file, with it's associated media. Of course, save Master for referrence

Thanks, Jay. That helps. I was afraid to re-organize because I messed up many projects when I first started out with FCP about a year ago.
