Alpha channel dislay

OK, I did some preliminary exploring and searching but i still ended up here...

Where can i control how FCP displays alpha channels in the viewer?? My station here at work displays anything with alpha as pure white which is horrible, my comp at home displays it at as black which is fine until i filled in for someone whose comp showed alpha as the checked pattern, ala photoshop which seems ideal to me...

anyway, i've gone through all the preferences and clip properties that i can think of and have gotten nowhere...anyone know how to help me out??

In the top middle section of your viewer there is a set of three buttons. The far right one, the one that looks like a broken box, has a drop down menu. In this menu you can select black, white, or two kinds of checkerboard for your background. This will mean that your (empty) background will always be checkers, though. So if you need a black background you will need to change this back or insert a blakc slug or matte.

You can also do this in the canvas.
