missing QT m2vPosted by envisaging
You went (pressing fingers against forehead) from QuickTime 6 which has MPEG2 Export to QuickTime 7 which doesn't.
There's no way out. You will be using Compressor from now on to get your DVD files. If you're still in QuickTime 6, then you killed off your QuickTime Pro license which is needed for any export at all. That usually shows up with the Final Cut install. Is all your software "real?" And why did you have to reinstall everything? Koz
After reading a previous string, it seems like listening to the Apple pro's may have screwed me. I have QT 6 on another machine, can I bring it over? Or am I just as well served using compressor.
Would you kindly help me through the steps in compressor... including settings for a final output for DVD? Thank you Koz.

Words that resonated on the lips of everyone who tried to go from QT6 to QT7. That's one of the reasons we didn't go. We still make DVDs in QT6, To its credit, Compressor is pretty talented. It has a very good motion compensating television standards converter built in to go from PAL to NTSC and back. It has presets and a much better and more accurate MPEG2 encoder than plain QuickTime did. However. For the most part, it's bigger, much slower, and more expensive than the old way for just about the same results. Nobody ever uses the standards converter because Nattress is so much faster. What's not to like? It's possible to ignore Compressor completely and drop your exported Final Cut movie directly into DVD Studio Pro. Compressor will run in the background, but it will still run. This is all assuming you have the matched set of QT7, FCP5, and Tiger. If you don't have this set or the lower matched set of QT6, Panther, and FCP4.5, you may not be pleased with your machine. Apple's response to all this sturm und drang is to include tools so that many Macs can be daisy chained together to process the same job. And you will have a happy day, won't you? Koz
Hi Envi --
With the help of this forum, I found a way to get that feature back. Do a search here for a thread that had the words "petition apple" in the title. That was when I had the same problem and I was flipping out about it. Towards the end of it, the Great and Powerful Koz added a link to systemsboy.blogspt.com that will be very helpful. If I recall... which I really don't... you need to find a component file called QuickTimeMpeg2.component. I found it in an old install disk of DVD Studio Pro 3 (Koz' link led me to this discovery). I think I had to install DVD Studio Pro 3, find that .component file, save it in a safe place, get rid of the old DVDSP3, and then put the .component file where it belongs (I think it's HD ->Library ->Quicktime). But I can't remember exactly what I did, so please don't take my word for it. It was something like that... you'll need to invest a little time, and it may not work on all systems depending on what you have and what you don't, but it worked great for me. Oh, by the way... thanks Koz! (about 3 months later) Good luck envi! k

You're welcome. But we never got any of that to work. We're still cranking away on our Panther/FCP4.5/QT6 machine. We're forced to use our Tiger machine for the HiDef jobs, but all the NTSC stuff goes through the older machine. I may try it again if I get a little time. Koz
