QuickTime 7.1.6 addresses numerous bug fixes and includes support for Final Cut Studio 2, and timecode and closed captioning support in QuickTime Player. Apple recommends the update for all QuickTime 7 users. It is available for download from Apple?s Web site or from the Software Update system preference.

Viewing Timecode is finally supported!

well hello Timecode! This bodes well for future uses of QT when opening up FCP would be too much, or isn't an option.

Did you read the fine print?

The 7.1.6 disables QuickTime Pro functionality and keeps it disabled until another key is purchased.

Very considerate.

I guess like everything else Apple, we can look forward to paying licence fees for software use every couple of years.

It only disables QuickTime Pro for versions 5 and 6. If you were previously running QTPRO ver 7 it will maintain your pro status.

I took the plunge. Loaded it up, but can't seem to make the Time Code appear.

Checking the "info" window and the timecode track is present. I checked "ON" in the preference setting, but still no joy.

Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong?

"Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong? "

having false expectations smiling smiley

i got all excited about a burnt in display, too
but this TC "display" is NOT on-screen, AFAIK.

it's the tiny TC lower left of the external window,
Control Click on that to choose between "Standard" (TC starts at zero), "Timecode", or "Frame Number" which is a frame count.

if you want an instant solution for BITC, then QTSync is still the answer

Aha. I see that now.

Bummer. I was soooo looking forward to a burnt in window! Maybe there's still hope.
