working with sound timecode

working with sound timecode

I have just started working on an HD project which involves digitizing clips from an HD tape into Final Cut. The clips are all pre-logged in a .flx file which contains a separate sound timecode from the original DATs, which were used to make the tape. I would like to be able to view the sound timecode from the DATs in the Viewer, next to the video timecode. So far I can only get it to display the audio timecode from the HD tape, which is the same as the video timecode. Does anybody know if it is possible to get this information on the Viewer display?

this is why i get Audio TC burnt in to the image.

the TC isn't in the CLIP, so no, there's n simple way see the audio TC

one way:
put your clips into a timeline,
export an Audio EDL via Cinematools,
this will create an EDL that reefers to the DAT TC
import the EDL, and lay it on another track in your FCP timeline

i guess you could copy paste the audio TC into the Video clips's aux TC.

that'd be tedious

PS:
btw, everybody talks about "flex" files, but it;s kind of generic, like saying "band-aid"
i've found that while flex files work up to a point,
it;s only the ALE files that bring in everything:
specifically i've found the ink code doesn't appear in flex files.

That's interesting about using the AUX timecode. If I do that, is there a way to display the AUX timecode in the viewer, next to the video timecode?

no, it's one or the other, AUX or Source TC.
