Does my Firewire 400 make my firewire 800 run slower??

Hi!
Does anybody have an answer? I have a titanium PB with FCP 5.2. When I have my LaCie FW800 drive attached AND my PD100 via FW400, does the system "dumb down" to FW400, or do the individual devices maintain their speeds? Thanks in advance for your time and responses.
Regards,
-Ruthy

Speed gets reduced to the slowest item on the bus. If you have a camera or deck attached it's usually even slower, down to FW100. The bus speed is reduced to that, so effectively is everything else attached to it. If you have a cardbus you can isolate them and maintain speed on separate buses.

Yes, the two ports on the Powerbooks are tied to the same bus. You'll want an expansion PC firewire card to keep things separated and running faster. Or at least, unplug the camera when you don't really need it.
